Several Scouts braved the winter weather on December 8th for the second annual Advent Walk on the campus of Notre Dame. Guided by Fr. Doyle, five separate chapels were visited. The highlights included the Log Cabin Chapel, which is a replica of the original Log Cabin Chapel which burned down, and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. After each, scripture readings were read and Christmas Carols were sung at each location. The walk was concluded with hot chocolate and cookies at Geddes Hall. Thanks to all who came out!
Pack 10 had a wonderful turnout at the Mishawaka City Council Meeting on December 2nd. Each scout got to absorb the experience of City Council in action! Our scouts participated in a question and answer period with Mayor Wood in his office prior to the Council meeting. Before the meeting, the Mayor was presented with a Scouting Pin for his lapel to wear with pride as a Cub Scout parent and to let others know that he is a proud citizen promoting the values and mission of Scouting.
We have been invited to the Mishawaka City Council meeting on December 2nd to close out our Citizenship unit. I ask that you arrive no later than 6:20 pm. Mayor Dave Wood will host our Cub Scout Pack from 6:30 – 7:00 pm to field questions from our scouts regarding Citizenship. We will lead the City Council in the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 pm. This event requires Class A uniform (tucked –in and neat). I encourage all Scouts to attend. Citizenship encompasses all age groups and I would love to see 100% attendance. I will dismiss the scouts after 30 minutes (7:30 pm) as I am keenly aware of the travel time to and from City Hall and wrapping up the day. This will be a wonderful experience for all of us so please make the effort to attend.
Note: Please feel free to contact Doug Merritt (dm@professionalpermits.com) regarding car pool opportunities. I encourage at least one-parent to attend with their Cub Scout. Young children/siblings are not excluded but, please be mindful this is a formal City-Council meeting.
Location: 600 E Third Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
