Our first pack activity of the year will be the Bike Hike, starting at Howard Park. Look in your email for the directions for the hike. We will have different groups for experienced riders and new riders. Email email@example.com if you are not yet receiving emails from our pack and would like more information about this event.
If you did not finish your application or submit payment, you may bring these to this event. Please see our pack secretary, Mrs. Allen, and our pack treasurer, Mr. Riem, who will help process those for you.
Please join us at our first pack meeting of the year this Monday, August 29th at 6:30 pm. We will meet at the Saint Pius X school jungle gym.
Rain location: Aux Gym inside the school building.
Congratulations to our three Webelos 2 Scouts who finished their Arrow of Light award this year and continue on to Scouts, BSA. They crossed over our ceremonial bridge and were welcomed into the next phase of their scouting career. The rest of the Scouts received their remaining pins, badges, and belt loops and celebrated the end of this Scouting year.
We are so proud of our Scouts who earned their Parvuli Dei and Light of Christ awards on May 22, 2022. They worked hard to work through their workbooks with their families and then met with Fr. Augustine to check their work.
The goal of the Pinewood Derby is for scouts to have fun building a car while learning how to use basic tools under appropriate adult supervision. Each scout should enter a car that they have constructed for this year’s race. To ensure that race day is as fair as possible, all cars must obey the following rules:
- The car may not weigh more than 5 ounces.
- The car body must be 2.75 inches wide and 7 inches long.
- Bottom clearance under the car must be 3/8 inch.
- BSA brand wheels and axles must be used. Only dry powder lubrication may be used.
- The wheels and axles must be mounted in the standard pre-cut grooves, which are 4 and 3/8 inches apart.
Note that any BSA branded car kit already has the proper dimensions and wheels, so it is easy to follow the rules if you simply use the kit in the obvious way. If you use a non-BSA branded kit, then be sure to check each of the measurements above, and buy a set of standard BSA wheels to use with the car.
All cars must be presented to the weigh-in judge for weighing before racing begins. If a car does not meet the rules, the scout may modify the car and try again at any point before his den begins racing. If a car breaks during a race (e.g. a wheel falls off) the owner will be given five minutes to repair the car, and the race attempted again. Scouts will have the opportunity to race their cars three times, using different and randomized lanes of the track.
The decisions of the judges are final, and all scouts and parents are reminded that the judges are friendly volunteers whose goal is fun and fairness to all.
Come to witness a sign of hope – the Bethlehem Peace Light!
Each year in late November, a child from Austria lights a lantern from the continuously burning candle in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the site of Jesus birth. This flame is then flown across the world and its light spreads to the corners of the world.
The Peace Light will be blessed and installed at Saint Pius X on Tuesday, December 21 following the 6pm mass. All are welcome to join at this mass, which usually takes about 30 minutes. If you wish to join for the Peace Light Ceremony but not the mass, please congregate in the Parish Life Center near the Baptistry between 6:15-6:20pm. If you are a Scout, please wear your Class A uniform. The light will be passed using taper candles to all in attendance. Should you have a lantern or other safe way to transport a flame, you’re welcome to take the flame home with you. The Ceremony will be brief, but meaningful. St. Pius X will then maintain the flame on display throughout the season.
Scouts are welcome to join anytime of year. There is no prerequisite to joining and they can jump right in! Just ask our secretary, Mrs. Allen, for a registration packet and she will get you signed up. Feel free to bring finished applications to the next pack meeting or event.

We had a great turnout for our outdoor Pinewood Derby. Each den raced their cars against each other and then the winners raced for that coveted Pack winner trophy! Congrats to all our Scouts who made cars and raced them. Thanks to all the families for coming out and making this a fun event.
